National Partners


British Trust Conservation Volunteers

The British Trust for Conservation Volunteers is all about improving your health and the environment. Attend a half-day Green Gym® session and exercise while working outdoors, learn new skills and make friends while getting yourself fitter working with one of our community conservation projects.


British Trust for Ornithology

We are passionate about the UK’s birds. If you like watching birds make a difference to their future by volunteering with the BTO. Your records will help alert policy-makers and conservation organisations to the changing fortunes of our birds.


British Waterways

If you like boats, fishing and wildlife then have fun and make a big difference by helping your local canal or river. You'll make new friends and don't even have to leave the city to do it!


The Countryside Restoration Trust

Enjoy the fresh air, take some exercise, meet new people, learn a thing or two. Regular opportunities to take part in conservation activities and wildlife surveys on working farms and in rural landscapes.


Forestry Commission England

Discover the sights, sounds and experiences of the forest. From the quiet of the woods to the call of the wild, you can help us look after Britain's woods and forests.


Marine Conservation Society

Help us care for our seas, shores and marine wildlife. Join us for a beach litter pick and survey - it's great fun and a good day out at the beach. It's also amazing to see what people throw away! It you want to be part of an international clean up come along to the Big Beachwatch Weekend happening all around the UK on the 3rd weekend in September. We'd also love to hear about your sightings of Basking sharks and jellyfish.


National Parks

Many people get great enjoyment from our National Parks. If you want to 'put something back' or 'make a difference' why not get involved by helping with wall-building or hedge-laying, wildlife surveys or even clearing footpaths. There's something to suit everyone!


The National Trust

Learn new skills, meet new people and work right at the heart of amazing buildings, gardens and landscapes.


Natural England

Volunteer at a nature reserve, encourage the increase of wildlife in a garden, join a bird watching group, or simply go out walking. Even learn how to make your own garden a home for Britain's precious wildlife, such as the common frog, song thrush or hedgehog.


Royal Society for the Protection of Birds

Love Nature? So do we! It's there for us 24/7 and by volunteering for the RSPB you can help us protect it. Whatever your skills, interests or the time you have available there will be a volunteering opportunity that's just right for you. Even if you know nothing at all about birds you can still volunteer for us.


Sustrans

Sustrans works on practical projects so that people can choose to travel in ways that benefit their health and the environment. Join us as a volunteer and help us to maintain and improve thousands of miles of cycle routes so more people can enjoy safe and attractive routes into the countryside. Whether you are planting trees, pruning hedgerows or putting up bird or bat boxes you'll be enriching biodiversity and improving the environment for wildlife. Make friends, get fit and join one of our 230 local groups around the country.


The Tree Council

The Tree Council's goal is to make trees matter to everyone. It works towards ensuring there are more trees, of the right kind, in the right places and that trees of all ages are better cared for.


The Wildlife Trusts

The Wildlife Trusts are working for an environment everyone can enjoy. We are the largest UK voluntary organisation dedicated to looking after all the UK’s species and habitats; in the country, in cities and at sea too. We manage more than 2,200 nature reserves so there are many opportunities for you to get involved. And whether you have an hour to spare or one day a week, we’ll have a wonderful wildlife activity to suit you.


The Woodland Trust

Love the UK's trees and woods? You can help us look after them. Woodland Trust volunteers help us to record, manage, plant, protect and photograph trees and woods and inspire others to do the same through a variety of activities and projects.



 
 

Local Partners


Dorset Countryside Volunteers

Dorset Countryside Volunteers is a practical conservation group run by volunteers. The group was set up in 1972 by people who wanted to do practical work in the Dorset countryside which would not otherwise be done. It continues today with that aim. Some of the organisations Dorset Countryside Volunteers works for include Dorset Wildlife Trust, Heritage Coast Project, the RSPB and Natural England.


East Devon District Council

Work with our Countryside Team whether you want to learn more about our amazing wildlife and your environment or just spend some time enjoying our outstanding countryside. We have free outdoor activities all year round for all ages and interests at our Local Nature Reserves.


The Friends of Kings Mill Reservoir

Kings Mill is a large reservoir and area of natural beauty on the Sutton-in-Ashfield and Mansfield border. The area is brimming with wildlife and volunteers can help us protect and enhance this.


The Isle of Wight Council

The Countryside Section of the Isle of Wight Council is involved in a wide range of activities from giving advice about wildlife to carrying out practical management of the Island’s Local Nature Reserves and teaching children about nature. They also produce Wight Walks programme twice a year which features guided walks and outdoor activities where local experts share their knowledge of the wildlife, heritage and history of Isle of Wight for Islanders and visitors of all ages.


Land Restoration Trust

From woodlands to marshlands, from nature reserves to public footpaths the Land Restoration Trust owns a variety of public spaces around the country. All these spaces are managed by locally based organisation for the benefit of the community. There are always opportunities for you to get involved in your local spaces whether it’s building bridges and footpaths, planting trees, clearing scrub, leading walks, helping run events or simply reporting the wildlife you see.


Lower Mole Countryside Management Project

The Lower Mole Project is a partnership with boroughs, districts and other organisations in the Surrey and Kingston area carrying out countryside management including landscape enhancements, woodland management and pond restoration.


Marston Vale Trust

The Forest of Marston Vale in Bedfordshire covers sixty-one square miles of Bedfordshire, featuring a growing number of beautiful woodlands, wetlands and open spaces for everyone to enjoy. Help The Marston Vale Trust repair a landscape scarred by decades of clay extraction, brick making and landfill by offering your services as a volunteer.


The Peak Park Conservation Volunteers

Peak Park Conservation Volunteers runs a conservation project on each Saturday and Sunday and the last Friday of each month throughout the year. Volunteers carry out a wide variety of projects that would not normally be done by the National Park's own staff, local craftspeople or outside contractors.


People & Places Project

A partnership within the Mendip Hills between Somerset Wildlife Trust, The National Trust, Natural England and the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Volunteers are already working to keep the many special reserves supporting as much wildlife as they can. Volunteers are also involved in surveying wildlife and wardening areas to help provide information for the many visitors to the area


Rochdale Council

From wooded valleys to open moorland, Rochdale has lots of beautiful countryside. We need even more volunteers to make it the best countryside possible. Why not join our Green Volunteers. You can help us manage our woodlands and other habitats, monitor wildlife biodiversity and walk our countryside footpaths. We also do a variety of horticultural restoration projects such as breathing new life into tired herbaceous flower borders in public parks.


Sedgemoor Conservation Volunteers

Sedgemoor Conservation Volunteers carries out practical conservation work on local nature reserves. Most tasks take place in the Somerset Levels, and occasionally in Sedgemoor and Mendip District Council boundaries. Sedgemoor Conservation Volunteers carry out work for other organisations including English Nature, the RSPB, Plant Life Somerset and Sedgemoor District Council.


South Gloucestershire Council

There’s plenty of opportunities in South Gloucestershire to muck in and help look after our local environment. We have a network of local Friends Groups who help manage local nature reserves and local green spaces who are always on the look out for willing volunteers to help them. There’s a wide range conservation volunteer opportunities to suit all ages and abilities. We work closely with Avon Wildlife Trust, BTCV and a whole host of other environmental organisations who are looking for people just like you!


Sutton Nature Conservation Volunteers

If you think that you need to travel to the countryside to see wildlife, get ready to change your mind! Through volunteering with Sutton Nature Conservation Volunteers, you’ll get panoramic views of London from chalk grasslands on the North Downs and plenty of urban fringe wildlife on our variety of nature conservation sites. You’ll learn traditional management skills, like coppicing and hedgelaying in the winter through to fencing and wildlife surveying in the summer.


Thames21

Thames21, London's leading waterways charity, works with around 4,000 volunteers every year to make a lasting difference to London's rivers and canals. Events are held throughout the year and are suitable for all.


Warwickshire County Council, Country Parks

The Countryside Recreation Team works with volunteers, both in the Country Parks and on the Public Rights of Way network throughout the county.


Wycombe District Council

Wycombe District Council's Woodland Service manages twenty sites for the benefit of local wildlife and the local community. Situated on the border of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we have four Local Nature Reserves and a further three Local Wildlife Sites which we manage with our wide range of partners including local wildlife groups, businesses, schools & colleges and community groups throughout the district and further afield.
